Online sales - the barriers are smaller than you think with Intelligent Ecommerce!

Today’s consumers expect to be able to find everything they need or want online.
Despite this 69% of entrepreneurs have not yet made the move to e-commerce in the UK despite it being an extremely lucrative marketing channel. Many small businesses in the UK have failed to capitlise and enter the online market because they fear the unknown, they don’t know where to begin and a lot of them feel that the market is “out of their league” so to speak.

The most obvious benefit to trading online is that it gives you greater reach to customers and drives sales. In PayPoint.net’s recent report, Powering Small Business Britain, 59% of the over 800 entrepreneurs surveyed identified this aspect as the biggest pull to e-commerce. Consumers look to buy everything online, from their groceries and taxi bookings, to their insurance.

Clearly there are many advantages to e-commerce and this is recognised by small businesses in Britain; the issue, is that entrepreneurs want to go online, but feel that this is not possible for various reasons, such as cost, fraud, or simply apprehension.

With SAP Business One and Intelligent Ecommerce your small to midsize business can enter the world of online trading with ease.

Intelligent Ecommerce provides users of SAP Business One with a robust and easy to use solution to provide information to customers. Using Intelligent Ecommerce companies can provide their customers with an on-line portal. Customers can log onto the website, enter their username and password and view products on offer.

IIS help SAP Business One customer “take full advantage of the deployment”

When your business is expanding, you need tight control over data and processes. That was the case for Advanced Ventilation Ltd., the exclusive installer in the United Kingdom for domestic ventilation units manufactured by Nuaire. As Advanced Ventilation received more and more orders from Nuaire – and began pursuing new business opportunities – it recognized the limits of its existing business software.

We were struggling to run our operations efficiently because we were relying on manual processes to manage our data,” explains Jamie McCann, managing director for Advanced Ventilation.

Advanced Ventilation was impressed by the success of other small and midsize companies using SAP Business One. It also liked the fact that the solution could be tailored to address its unique requirements. “We decided to implement SAP Business One 8.8 so we could take advantage of new innovations such as embedded analytics from the SAP Business Objects portfolio,” explains McCann.

For implementation, the company opted to work with Intelligent Information Systems (IIS) Ltd., a local SAP partner experienced with SAP Business One.
McCann appreciated the level of involvement of IIS employees. “By fostering relationships with people throughout our organisation to truly understand our needs, IIS helped us develop and implement the best solution. Moreover, it made us aware of functionality we didn’t know existed, enabling us to take full advantage of the deployment,” explains McCann.
In six months, the company went live with SAP Business One. Now the software is being used by employees in both company divisions.

Because SAP Crystal Reports® software is integrated into SAP Business One 8.8,
Advanced Ventilation employees can access rich graphic reports and forms.

In the past we based many of our decisions on gut feeling. Because SAP Business One provides access to up-to-the-minute financial information, including cash flow, we can make more informed decisions about our business. Plus we have the control over our finances and planning needed to effectively deploy new companies,” says McCann.

SAP Business One provides us quick and accurate insight into project status, which helps us stay on track and ultimately boosts customer satisfaction.”
Jamie McCann, Managing Director, Advanced Ventilation Ltd.

SAP ranked 26th in 2010 top 100 Global Brands poll!

“A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.”

Jeff Bezos

SAP has been ranked 26 in the latest Top 100 Global Brands poll. They have moved up one place from last year, and have moved up from 31st place since 2008.

The value of the SAP brand has risen 5% since last year. There latest campaign, “It’s time for a clear new world” clarifies their shift to customer needs, showing how SAP solutions offer business transparency and accountability. It remains one of the most globally integrated among big IT firms with most of its 50,000 employees now working outside of Germany. SAP has also put a lot of effort into developing their social media community which also reflects and supports their shift to being truly customer centric.

The message behind the SAP brand is "SAP helps to make work become a more personally enjoyable and rewarding experience." This was their mission statement in 2000 which reflects the spirit of SAP and describes how they wanted their customers to see them.

SAP recognised the value and importance of their brand back in 2000.

SAP's brand strategy has strengthened the ties between users and the software, while uniting the company internally in a mission everyone can support. The SAP brand sets the stage for the development of a community of users who respond to SAP's core values and personality, thus enabling them to find greater satisfaction in their software and their work.”

Intelligent Information Systems recognises the importance of branding and endeavors to reflect the best practices that companies like SAP employ.

The Intelligent Information Systems mission is “to offer the SME market ONE innovative piece of software that will cater to their distinct business needs and provide them with long term profitable benefits; continually creating solutions for our customers, building relationships with them and earning their lifetime loyalty.” From this we have developed our range of standardised add ons for SAP Business One, designed to make it even better. SMEs - Website domain name increasingly important and cheaper than you think!

If you have a web site, it makes your small business look big.”

Natalie Sequera

The .uk domain name is now 25 years old and is a must for digital business.
Sedo has revealed in its latest domain market study that domain names are more important than ever, especially to small businesses.
Findings from our quarterly domain market study reveal that Britain’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD) still holds excellent value and is one of the most popular extensions traded on the domain market.

The .co.uk domain is currently the second most traded ccTLD, behind Germany’s .de extension and when it comes to the top selling domains, TVs.co.uk represented one of the highest sales of the quarter (including all .com addresses) and was auctioned for £51,000.

While this shows the value businesses are prepared to place on a domain, extended media coverage around the expensive web addresses can make SMEs feel that acquiring decent domain names is out of their price range. The reality is quite different and many web addresses come onto the secondary domain market at a more reasonable price; the median reported sales price of all .co.uk’s is £348 - a price that certainly wouldn’t break the bank and would help a SME ensure an optimal digital presence.

Developing a strategic domain name is crucial for brands to steer their online presence in the right direction. Top words should be identified in the given markets, develop a list of target domains and purchase URLs that available immediately

Keyword domains related to search terms will often rank highly in natural search listings and receive a higher quality value than those run through paid search campaigns.

Good domains will also increase the number of listings of a brand in search engines and assist with link building.

A full domain portfolio will hinder competitors’ online standing in a particular market place and minimise brand damage. Companies such as Sainsbury’s (taste.co.uk), the Times (news.co.uk) and Barclays (bank.co.uk) all use this strategy and it can be very usefully be applied to SME also, when .co.uk domain names are available to buy at an average price of £1,338.

Businesses should consider domain names as a cost-effective way to increase conversion, boost sales and drive traffic in their quest to build a strong and attractive digital presence.

Our domain name represents what we endeavour to do; support you in your endeavors to become a better business with SAP Business One and Intelligent Essentials.

IIS get SAP social media mention!

Our social media efforts are paying off and SAP having given us some recognition! We were mentioned in the last months social media webinar, and now the case study on us has been completed and is now available on the SAP social media portal!

The Importance of Planning…largely neglected by SMEs

It's not the plan that is important, it's the planning”.
Dr. Graeme Edwards

Over the last two days the IIS team have come together and all in all the event has been a success and most objectives have been achieved in terms of the discussions, meetings and presentations that needed to be had.

Everyone is now familiar with the numerous new faces that have joined the team in the last 6 months, ideas have been shared, plans have begun to be formulated, processes for each functional area are being developed and improving efficiency and effectiveness overall is the collective goal!

A great emphasis has been placed on the need for more planning, not that it has been entirely neglected but the need to document it from a company, team and individual perspective has become increasingly apparent.

New research shows that a large number of SME’s have no written business plan.
Research by business insurance comparator SimplyBusiness.co.uk of 400 British entrepreneurs shows that 54 per cent of firms have no written business plan.
Jason Stockwood, CEO of SimplyBusiness.co.uk, says: ‘Limited time and resources are characteristic of growing businesses, and the recession will have stretched UK entrepreneurs further than ever before. Understandably, many have become so focused on working in their business that their time working on their business may have suffered as a result.’

At IIS we all understand the importance and value of planning and endeavour to make it an habitual practice across all departments. That is not to say that it is not something we haven’t considered or invested within in the past, but as we continue to grow the need for a more formal approach becomes increasingly imperative.

If you are failing to plan, you are planning to fail.”

Intelligent Information Systems Company Days

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much

Helen Keller

All the teams within IIS are coming together on Monday and Tuesday to catch up on the latest, share ideas and make plans for the coming months and 2011.

With three new members having joined the team since June, myself included, and another one set to join in October, it will be a good chance for everyone to put faces to the names that they’ve been hearing and corresponding with over the summer months and also those which to introductions haven’t been made.

IIS places a high emphasis on team work and recognises the importance of open communication, the sharing of knowledge and ideas which supports the continued innovation which we are committed to achieving in relation to our products, services and in house activities.

The company days provide a chance for each department to converse with each other, recognising the importance and contributions of all included.

By sharing information, teamwork enhances business, makes it more informed, creates harmony and alleviates resentment between the different factors that need to work hand in hand in order to make a business work.

Teamwork has been proven to be the secret to a successful business and if you were to imagine each person within that team as a little cog in a machine, without one of the cogs working, the whole machine stops. Equally as important as this, the communication between each faction means that the shared information adds value, oils that machine, and makes the teamwork more effective
.”

Rachelle de Bretagne

Blog posts and social media activity may come to a slight halt over the couple of days next week in case anyone thinks we’ve given up or are failing to keep up the effort, far from it! We'll back with any highlights and revelations from the days on Wednesday!

Measuring Your Social Media Efforts

So the experimentation with social media has begun; well it’s begun for us and more broadly a lot of businesses are beginning to test the waters, that is, if they are not already fully submerged!

Social Media Marketing is a key strategy to employ when trying to enhance the your websites landing page SEO. At Intelligent Information Systems the experimentation has begun in correspondence with the overall of our website in an effort to improve our overall web presence and to conjointly improve the SEO of our site.

Social Media is a way to get high quality back links to your website.

The key tools for measurement which shouldn’t be overlooked are:

Google Analytics

Google analytics will not help you understand the viral nature of various social media completely. But when using the combination of Google analytics and conversion tracker, you can learn an awful lot about where traffic is coming from and map it to your social media campaign to see what is working; at least directionally.
You should look at sources of traffic and see if it is broadening to include the elements of your social media campaign. You can also look at key variables like:

•Time spent
•Bounce rate
•Page views

Looking at and considering these variables will all help you make inference-based decisions on the quality of the traffic you are driving to your website.

Emerging Social Media Measurement Tools

Many new tools are emerging for measuring social media effectiveness. Most are limited in scope to one channel or type of social media experience.
One promising new tool, that will measure the viral effects of social media, is the popular ShareThis platform. ShareThis reaches over 400 million people a month though the social media share buttons you can add to your content that they provide as part of their service. This service is simple to implement on your site. If you don’t already have sharing functionality, you should consider implementing ShareThis or something like it.

ShareThis is about to add the ability to analyse social media by business category, which will be very useful for niche businesses. The company recently shared some interesting stats regarding social media with TechCrunch. According to the company, Facebook accounts for 45 percent of all shared content across its network. E-mail followed with 34 percent and Twitter with 12 percent.

The key here is thinking about social media as a coordinated piece of your overall marketing mix and measuring it as such. While measurement tools are not perfect, you can get enough data today to make solid decisions to help you optimise your social media campaigns.

Keep eye contact with your customers!

A word is a word, but a word expressed upon the sincerity of the eyes will allow the words spoken to reach the minds of those they are spoken to.”

Jan Castagnaro

How can you provide that sincerity that the eyes bring even when you don’t see your customers face to face?
You need to make your customers feel good about the service you are providing them, keep them informed, respond to their needs and requests and endeavour to better meet them surpassing any expectations they may have.

Figuratively “Eye contact” can and needs to be maintained even if you are communicating with your customers via a phone line or computer screen.

Consider the following:

Response Time

At IIS we endeavour to answer all phone calls, never letting the phone ring out and rather than leaving customers on hold we make note of their call and reassure them that we call them back if the query can’t be answered or the support can’t be provided at the particular time.

Follow Up

If you make a promise to respond make sure you do! And if you can’t respond straight away keep them updated and let them know you haven’t forgotten about them. We do our best at IIS to make sure our customers or anyone who calls with a query or an interest is kept informed at all times.

When I call IIS I feel that I am not just another number, another customer. I deal with people whom I have got to know and who have an in depth knowledge of SAP B1. They are interested in our business and work with us to ensure that SAP B1 works well for us as an enterprise management system meeting our specific requirements.”

Achieve your ERP goals with these key considerations

There really isn’t a short list of factors which need to be considered when implementing an ERP solution but there are key factors which should be reflected upon at the very least.

Treat ERP as a major business investment. Rather than view it as a purely technical project, even though ERP relies on technology, the primary function of any ERP system is delivering business value. Remember this during every aspect of the ERP process, from vendor selection through implementation and go-live. Always ask, “What are the business benefits of this investment?” Without defining concrete and specific business benefits, any investment in ERP is a waste of money and time. More than anything else, ERP is about improving your business.

Business fit is paramount during software selection. It’s easy to get caught up in the technical aspects of software selection, but pay close attention to the business results you hope to achieve. Discuss this at length with the software vendor and any consultants you have engaged to help with the selection process. Put them on the spot and make sure they help identify concrete areas in which the software will make your company more efficient, profitable, and so on. At IIS we have experience across almost every business sector; our customer testimony’s and case studies depict our knowledge and expertise, as well as highlighting the benefits that SAP Business One and Intelligent Essentials can specifically provide you based upon your industry sector.

Prepare for transformation. One of the great benefits of ERP is the opportunity to improve how your business operates. Although change is hard, automating old, inefficient processes generally makes little sense. It’s far better to use the implementation as a vehicle to streamline processes and simplify, or improve, workflows.

Embrace change management. ERP is all about transformation and improvement, making change management one of the most important determinants of implementation success. Communicate project goals and status frequently out to the organization. And don’t forget training and documentation, which receive insufficient attention on many projects. Going back to point one in this list, communication should focus on business goals and concrete benefits, rather than just reciting schedule dates.

Innovation the key to sustainable competitive advantage

Innovation can be described as the utilisation to new skills and knowledge to create a new product or service which will be of use within the marketplace.
Another way of looking at it is as idea selection, development and commercialisation.

Innovation is seen to be the lifeblood of any organisation, ensuring that continual change underpins activities and that competitive advantage can be sustained. Always striving to improve, creating something new to better meet customers’ needs beyond how your competitors are meeting them.

An innovation is something new, it must be better than what exists, it must be economically viable and there must be widespread appeal.

Maintaining the status quo has for some been the principal focus during the economic downturn but those who have continued to invest in continual and even small changes are likely to emerge ahead of their competitors as the economy rebounds.

"Business is about balance," says Jerry Gauche, Senior Vice President at National Oilwell Varco (NOV). "You have to invest for the future, as well as create a cash flow that sustains the business in the short term."

You should always create options for what the future may bring.

Innovation is something which should resound throughout your organisation rather than it merely being the focus of a small group of people that are known to be creative.
It comes down to your organisation being customer orientated and being truly focused on meeting customers’ needs. If this forms the base of your organisational culture than innovation will be constant driver without you having to even think about it; it should be a natural outcome!

At Intelligent Information Systems we are constantly driven by our need to continually meet customer needs and support them in making their businesses even better. Our development team are focused on developing innovative solutions to build upon SAP Business One to make it enhance existing functionalities.

ERP and BI combine forces and yield stronger benefits for SMEs

ERP’s role in providing visibility across functions and departments is where there is seemingly a strong connection with BI.

Business intelligence (BI) is a broad category of applications and technologies for gathering, storing, analysing, and providing access to data to help enterprise users make better business decisions.

ERP software is multi-module application software that integrates activities across functional departments, from product planning, parts purchasing, inventory control, product distribution, to order tracking. ERP software may include application modules for the finance, accounting and human resources aspects of a business.

So why do we need both?

ERP systems are known to produce a lot of data but not a lot of information. Data is facts and statistics where is information is data which is converted to knowledge; it’s interpreted data. BI facilitates the transformation of data to information.

Businesses are operating at an accelerated pace today forcing the need for speed in decision making but decision makers are also forced to work with an increasing amount of data.

In 2009 Aberdeen’s annual report revealed that 32% of those SME’s that have implemented their solution have extended their solution with BI or some analytical tool. Of all the SME’s surveyed, 31% had invested in some sort of BI or analytical tool, of which 51% had no ERP.

Both BI and ERP individually bring value to a business, but when married together the two produce a synergy by which the total value exceeds the sum of the parts.

As an SME the ideal solution is SAP Business One designed specifically to meet the needs of SMEs which can be integrated with Crystal reports.

The SAP Business One application together with the Crystal Reports offering from the SAP Business Objects portfolio, delivers compelling reporting functionality and information access to small businesses. With these offerings small businesses can get up to date intelligence to drive decision making.

IIS coming to a radio station near you!

Due to the success of our last radio advertising campaign on Irish radio we have decided to give it another bash.

As the new marketing coordinator at IIS I headed in to Newstalk yesterday afternoon to produce the ad.

I was immediately impressed by the bright and modern offices and made to feel at ease and extremely welcome by all the staff I came across and engaged with.
The atmosphere was relaxed yet professional, with staff clearly enthusiastic about their work and happy to be there.

The producer was excellent as was the voice over both clearly with a great deal of experience respectively and also in terms of working together which meant the ad was recorded, tweaked and ready to be aired within an hour and half!

I was mightily impressed and two days after having decided to invest in radio advertising our ad is now ready to go and due to air on Monday.

Listen out for Intelligent Information Systems on Newstalk 106 – 108 fm over the next two coming weeks. We’ll be getting our mention morning, noon and night and we would love to gain some feedback and will of course be happy to respond to any queries or interest that it sparks!

"Intelligent Information Systmes" Our Professional LinkedIn Group

Having updated our company profile, created my own personal profile as a member of the Intelligent Information Systems team, joined and begun to interact with groups the next step on the LinkedIn Platform, as advised by the SAP social media support team.

Having created a facebook company page, blog and dedicated youtube channel I wasn't sure about what additional benefits a LinkedIn business group could offer.

LinkedIn is seen as a business-oriented social networking site and people tend to act more professional in this network than they would in Facebook or MySpace. Plus, many professionals tend to visit this site more frequently than they would other social media sites as they use LinkedIn to research companies and potential contacts.

There are seemingly many great benefits for having a LinkedIn Group for your business.

Individual Visibility — when someone joins your group, they can elect to have a small badge representing the group display in their profile (and people generally opt in for displaying the badge). This badge signifies that someone has a particular affinity with your company and brand.

Corporate Visibility — the group gives your company additional visibility. When someone sees the group badge in your profile or the profiles of others, they may click on it to see what the group is all about. If a customer joins your group, it shows that they are committed to what you are doing and makes them ‘stickier’ and less likely to take their business to another company.

Corporate Announcements — you can use the Groups feature to contact your group members with an announcement or other news. While you can only use this feature once per week, it is a low cost way to keep members informed about new programs, offers or company news. The alternative would be to use an email or newsletter solution that could cost you from $25 to $100 per month or more.

Job Postings — you can also use your group to post job openings for your company or affiliates. Only members of the group can see the postings, so this is another reason for people to join your group.

Better Connections – even if you are not directly connected to another group member, you can still send that member a message or invite them to connect with you because you share the group affiliation.

Group Newsfeed — any activity in the group is reported in the news feed for anyone who has joined the group. For example, I can easily see if there are any new posts or news added to the group site by reviewing my newsfeed. Users can also opt to get daily or weekly email updates of new activity.

We look forward to utilising our new group presence on LinkedIn and would love for anyone interest in SAP Business One, Intelligent Information Systems or Intelligent Essentials to come join the Intelligent Information Systems Group on LinkedIn. It may also be of interest or use to anyone involved with or working for an SME regardless of whether you have implementated SAP Business One or any ERP software solution within your business as we endeavour to enlighten you and keep you informed and up to date on the latest developments and benefits until you feel the time is right to take the plunge!
